SRINAGAR: Government on Monday appointed Dr A G Ahangar as Director SKIMS, official sources told.
Dr. Ahangar headed the cardiothoracic surgery department of the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) before he was appointed Director of NEIGRIHMS, Guwahatti in 2011. Dr. Ahangar was tipped to head SKIMS in 2011 when the then government appointed Prof.
Showkat Ali Zargar as Director, SKIMS in April 2011. Dr. Ahangar had challenged the appointment of Zargar in the J&K High Court and in the meantime he was picked by the Union Health Ministry to head NEIGRIHMS in Guwahati.
After taking over as Director SKIMS Dr Ahangar told KNS that his immediate priority would be to take care of injured patients who were reporting at the hospital due to the prevailing situation in Kashmir.
He also said his priorities would be to make SKIMS hub of research. “SKIMS isn’t only a hospital but a medical university where research would be given preference. Patient care will be also on top of my agenda,” he said.
The post had fallen vacant after Dr Showkat Zargar attained superannuation on June 3.
Since last month, Commissioner Secretary Health Dr Mandeep Bhandari, a senior IAS officer was heading the SKIMS on temporary arrangement.
According to the government orders vide order number 397-HME/2016 dated 08-07-2016, Dr Riyaz Ahmad Untoo was appointed as the Principal Medical College SKIMS Bemina, which was the long pending demand of the faculty.
The faculty later appreciated the government orders.
For the first time in last 16 years, the faculty member from JVC was appointed as Principal Medical College Bemina.
