Locals block highway to demand arrest of ‘psychopath’

BANDIPORA: A “psychopath” government teacher who was arrested by police after he attacked three persons with a knife last week, came out of police custody on Monday and the same night barged naked into a house where a lone woman was reciting Tarawih prayers.
After the incident, residents of Bagh Bandipora came out on the streets and blocked traffic on the Bandipora-Srinagar road on Tuesday morning to protest the release of the “psychopath” by the police.
Mohammad Shafi Bhuru, a government teacher at middle school Athwatoo, is known by locals as a deranged man who is dangerous and unpredictable.
Mohammad Shafi had last week attacked three locals with a knife injuring two of them critically. The injured had to be immediately rushed to Srinagar for treatment. The women in the area say that they live in “constant fear as the psychopath can attack anyone without warning.”
On Monday night, the day he was released from police custody, he “barged nude into one of the houses during Tarawih hours where a women was alone offering prayers,” locals said. Locals also alleged that police are reluctant to take action against the psychopath because he is the brother of a prominent doctor. “Police are not taking necessary action despite knowing how dangerous he is,” the locals said.
Locals are demanding that the dangerous “teacher psychopath” be taken to a mental asylum for treatment as he has become a nuisance for the residents here.
