Srinagar: The Roads and Buildings department is yet to macadamize the Pantha Chowk road stretch, which is giving a tough time to commuters traveling to and from south Kashmir.
The road, which was widened by the department last year after removing structures along the road, has not been macdamised yet.
Transporters, pedestrians and commuters said the blacktopping that the department did in October-November wore off during winter months.
“It is so dusty now. Children who live in the nearby locality have fallen ill. Since the condition of the road is bad, traffic jams are routine,” said Muhammad Rafiq, who lives in Panthachowk.
Office goers and students are the worst hit because they often reach their destinations late.
Chief Engineer Roads and Buildings Satish Razdan said weather constraints were hampering the macadmisation of the road stretch.
“It will take some time to blacktop it again,” he added.
