SRINAGAR: 268 kanals of poppy cultivation has been destroyed in the valley.
According to the Deputy Excise Commissioner Executive Kashmir, Khurshid Ahmad Shah, the department has launched drive against poppy cultivation. He said two excise teams comprising excise & taxation officers of South Kashmir range and Central Kashmir conducted anti-poppy drive in Pulwama and Budgam districts today.
In Pulwama the team headed by Saleem Akbar destroyed 65 kanals of poppy, whereas in Budgam the team headed by Shameem Ahmad Rather destroyed 55 kanals of poppy cultivation in the district.
The excise teams were assisted by police personnel of concerned police stations and patwaries of concerned halqas.
