Hajin: The negligence of Municipal Committee, Hajin has turned the Khanqah-e-Moula here into a dumping site as heaps of garbage could be seen piled near the shrine. The mosque goes are facing tough time as their repeated pleas to the civic authorities have borne no fruit.
Aggrieved residents of the area told Kashmir Reader that all garbage collected from the surrounding areas is dumped in open near Khanqah-e-Moula by the municipality employees. “Heaps of garbage are attracting dogs and monkeys, thus making it impossible for the worshippers to visit the shrine,” the locals said.
“Despite repeated pleas not to dump waste in the vicinity of the shrine; civic authorities have not paid any heed to our demands,” Manzoor Ahmad, a shopkeeper told Kashmir reader
Locals said that heaps of garbage are thrown into local river and main market near Khanqah-e-Moula almost on daily basis despite availability of dumping place in the area. “Municipality authorities are not bothered to direct its sweepers not to dump garbage in open. They seem to be not listening,” they said. “Whosoever passes through the main market is greeted by foul smell emanating from the garbage piled on both the banks of the river and main market,” a local resident said.
Another local Mohammad Ramzan said that instead of cleaning the area, the Municipality employees are making the place dirty. The locals have threatened to come on roads if the administration failed to remove garbage from the area and put an end to the practice.
When contacted Executive Officer MCH Hajin Abdul Rashid Teli acknowledged that lot of garbage has been dumped in main market. Teli however assured that he would look into the issue. He further said that there was some technical problem with the machines which has affected the cleaning process.
