Women’s polytechnic ‘peeping’ row: Hostel closed for week following ‘threats by warden’

Srinagar: The hostel at the Government Polytechnic for Women, Bemina, has been shut for a week after students Thursday filed a complaint with the police, accusing warden’s husband of peeping into the hostel’s common bathroom where a girl was bathing.

Following the incident, the students said, the warden warned them of dire consequences if they raised a voice against her husband in future.

“She made threatening remarks yesterday and warned us of dire consequences in near future. We feel insecure and we want that she should be removed,” a student said on condition of anonymity.

The administration has told students that classes will continue normally and extra classes will be held for the hostellers who can’t attend the classes till the hostel remains closed.

The accused, Ashiq Hussain, police said, has been traced in Jammu by JK police, and efforts are being made to arrest him.

Students had boycotted classes on Friday and protested at the campus for the entire day against the accused, forcing the administration to lodge a complaint with the police post at Bemina.
