SRINAGAR: Non-resident Kashmiris organ¬ised a candlelight vigil at the Na¬tional Centre for Civil and Human Rights, Atlanta, in memory of those killed by the Indian army for participating in peaceful protests, said Shoukat Qari, a participant.
“The protests were held against Indian army for reported molesta¬tion of a teenage girl and killing of innocents in subsequent peace¬ful protests. During the event they were joined by people from differ¬ent origins, cultures and faiths to express their support in peaceful resolution of Kashmir issue, and saving innocent Kashmiris from torture, forced-disappearance and killings by Indian army,” he said in a statement.
The event was a part of the glob¬al candlelight vigil that was held on Friday at 8pm (local time) in various cities in Australia, Asia, Europe, and American continents.
Several Kashmiri and non- Kashmiri families held the vigil in their homes.
