KUPWARA: The Fisheries Department on Saturday organised an awareness-cum-interaction programme under ATMA wherein Additional Deputy Commissioner Kupwara was the chief guest.
ADF Kupwara, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, officer from district administration, experts and a large number of progressive farmers (fishermen) were also present in the function.
The ADC Kupwara impressed upon the officers and filed functionaries of the fisheries department to resolve the issues of the fishermen and assured that district administration will provide all possible support in promoting the fishries sector in the district.
Earlier, the ADF informed that 522 fishermen are registered with the department while 116 are registered in private sector, besides 6 units of carp and trout have been setup in the district.
Fish production have reached 28.95 quintals in the district and 275000 nos of seed have been stocked in open water bodies and streams in the district.He also informed that 522 fishermen have been covered under insurance while revenue of Rs. 3.07 lakh were realized as license fee.
