Srinagar: Democratic Nationalist Party (DPN) president and former agriculture minister, Ghulam Hassam Mir Thursday questioned the delay caused in initiation of process to conduct Panchayat and Municipal polls.
Mir said that during the Governor’s rule, NN Vohra directed the authorities to start the process for holding these polls.
“In absence of elected bodies, I have apprehensions that these institutions would be run by civil administration, which is not in the interest of public at large,” he added.
Mir said that the successive regimes so far ignored and tried to end the basic democratic institutes.
“I hope present regime would take immediate steps and initiate process for holding these elections and decide the election dates in next cabinet meeting,” he said.
“The government is making lame excuses to delay these polls. Let the government stop making excuses and put the process in motion,” he said.
