SRINAGAR: Maulana Bashir Ahmad Shopiani, one of the prominent figures of the Ahle-Hadith movement in Kashmir, passed away on Thursday.
His grandfather, Maulana Anwar Shah Shopiani, is the founder of the Ahle-Haith movement in the Valley.
His father, Maulana Abdul Gani Shopiani was a legendary preacher at the Zaldagar Masjid, the first Ahle-Hadith mosque in the Valley. Until a year ago, Maulana Bashir was delivering Friday sermon at the same mosque since 1965.
He is survived by two sons, (retired) Principal District & Sessions Judge Nazir Fida and Abdul Shakoor who teaches at the SKUAST (K), and four daughters. He will be buried in his ancestral graveyard at Shopian.
