Khonmoh row: Truckers’ unions resolve standoff, resume work

Srinagar: The standoff between two truckers’ unions at Khonmoh was resolved on Thursday with both parties mutually agreeing to resume normal work henceforth.
The tussle started over two month ago after two truck unions, Zaffron Truck Union and Alkhudam Truck Union, went against each over supplying cement from the factories to the dealers and retailers in the Valley. Altaf Tramboo from Maxx Cements told Kashmir Reader that all the stakeholders met on Thursday morning and decided to call off the strike and resume the routine work normally.
He said that Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, senior citizens, trade bodies and other stakeholders played a crucial role in resolving the standoff.
Dealers’ Association congratulated all the parties who played their part in resuming the normal functioning of all cement plants at Khonmoh.
Pertinently, the four cement manufacturing units — Maxx, Arco, ICC and Cemtac – had to stop production after a standoff erupted between two trucker unions – Alkhudam and Zafraan – over getting exclusive right to work for Maxx and Arco Cement.
