SRINAGAR: Chowdhary Lal Singh may have left the health ministry but his scare is still palpable amidst the rank and file of the health department. Medical Superintendent of SMHS hospital Dr Nazir Hussain Choudhary does not answer queries on the shabby state of the hospital with the excuse that Chowdhary Lal Singh has barred them from speaking to the media.
Dr Nazir is the Nodal Officer of the SMHS sanitation. “I cannot answer any of your questions. I am not authorised to speak to the media. The previous minister has banned us from speaking to the media and it doesn’t matter which department he is handling now. At the end of the day, he is the part of the government and we have to abide by the rules,” he said.
Resident Medical Officer (Sanitation), Dr Muneer Khan also refused to speak on the issue. “I am not authorised to speak to the media. Speak to the Medical Superintendent,” was his refrain.
Minister of state for health Asiea Naqash said, “This is bad if they are doing it (sic). Lal Singh is no more the minister for health, so why are they avoiding questions citing his name? I will speak to the Principal Medical College regarding their attitude,” she said. However, she too was clueless on the insanitary conditions of the hospital and any remedies for the pressing problem.
