SRINAGAR: Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Geelani on Tuesday asked the Secretary General of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to “go beyond passing the resolutions and help Kashmiris in freedom struggle”.
In a statement issued here, Geelani asked OIC SG to “use influence and good office to pressurise India to implement the UN resolutions in J&K without further delay”.
“Though OIC supports Kashmir cause but as of now it has achieved nothing and risks losing its relevance,” he said.
Rejecting the statement of Indian foreign ministry spokesperson, Vikas Swaroop that Kashmir is an integral part of India, Geelani said, “Kashmir is an internationally recognised dispute not an integral part of India which has occupied the territory through its military might. This ‘integral part’ rhetoric will neither change the situation in Kashmir nor will it affect the state’s disputed nature. India must adopt a realistic approach and implement the UN resolutions over J&K as promised by it.”
Hurriyat (G) chairman also condemned the alleged attack on Kashmiri students in Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (Rajouri) and termed it “unacceptable”.
“This state-sponsored oppression has turned ugly and Muslims especially students are being harassed and intimidated thereby putting to risk their lives and career,” he said.
“RSS-BJP fanatics under the government patronage are hell bent upon destroying careers of Kashmiris and if this is not stopped, we will be left with no option but to lunch a full-fledged protest program against this oppression,” Geelani said. “Kashmiris, wherever they are, should focus on their studies. We assure them that the whole nation is with them,” he said.
