SRINAGAR: Hurriyat Conference (M) on Tuesday condemned the continuous house arrest of its chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, media adviser Advocate Shahid-ul-Islam, and detention of other leaders and activists.
A spokesman of the conglomerate in a statement issued here said despite “oppressive” measures, people “won’t give up their struggle based on just rights”.
“Conglomerate’s delegation comprising of Abdul Rashid Untoo, Abdul Majid Wani, and Mir Imran visited several police station including Zakura, Alamgari Bazar, Lal Bazar and Nigeen to enquire the well-being of several Hurriyat leaders and activists who are detained from several days,” he said.
“Such continuous arrest of leaders and activists is unfortunate and makes it clear that in Kashmir to raise voice against the atrocities is a crime. The arrest spree in nook and corner of the valley is an eye-opener for the world human rights organisations and it demands a strong notice,” he said.
