SRINAGAR: Hurriyat Conference (G) on Tuesday said that police is shielding the army by not mentioning the army in the FIR filed in Handwara incident. It also accused DC Kupwara Rajiv Ranjan of being “BJP, Shiv-Sena man”.
Reacting to Ranjan’s remarks that the firing that killed two youths in Handwara last Tuesday might have come “from the protesting crowd”, a Hurriyat spokesman said, “Ranjan is known for his fanatical mindset and his deputation to the district has been made under a well-thought-out plan. We have received many complaints about this officer earlier and he is involved in issuing armed licenses to Shiv Sena and BJP workers in Jammu areas.”
The spokesman also lashed out at the government for suspending five employees.
“Participating in protests is not a crime. This is a clear indication that inquiries ordered by the government are merely eyewash,” he said.
