Srinagar: Students of Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Awantipora also demonstrated against the killings and detention of the girl.
Students assembled in the lawns of the campus, carrying placards on which they had written ‘Stop Civilian Killings, Punish the Guilty, We are Humans not Animals.
Protesters shouted pro- Pakistan, pro freedom and anti-India slogans and demanded that troops responsible for firing should be punished.
“Indian politicians should know killings cannot suppress the freedom movement in Kashmir,” a protester told Kashmir Reader on condition of anonymity.
The students tried to march outside the varsity and block the Jammu-Kashmir highway, but they were not allowed by the university security personnel deployed at the main gate.
“This protest was against illegal Indian occupation of Kashmir and recent civilian killings in Handwara, Universities are meant to express disagreements. This is one of the primary functions of the university to provide space for the protests,” said another student.
