‘Social media news agencies’ asked to seek permission from DCs

SRINAGAR: Divisional commissioner Kashmir Asgar Hassan Samoon directed the operators of ‘social media news agencies’ to obtain proper permission from the deputy commissioners concerned for posting news on social media news groups along with sources.
He said action will be taken against the violators. He also asked information department to involve the media fraternity to help in monitoring of the news posted on the social media. He also sought cooperation of telecom operators to keep a check on rumor mongers.
Samoon was addressing deputy commissioners through video conferencing during a meeting, where inspector general of police also sought timely information and better cooperation from telecom operators which  he said is pivotal to curb rumors and rumor mongers.
Samoon asked the DCs and DSPs to have close liaison with the prominent citizens and civil society members of their respective districts so that administration can handle law and order situation in better way to avoid any untoward incident. He also impressed upon strict adherence to the Standard Operating Procedures.
