SRINAGAR: Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Geelani, on Monday said Handwara girl’s statement before the chief judicial magistrate “has no authenticity as she had been in police custody for several days”.
In a statement issued here, Geelani said the girl’s statement has no “moral or legal” validity.
“The statement has been recorded after keeping her under detention for several days. So, nothing can be said about its authenticity,” he said.
“Though truth will come to fore soon, but the incident can in no way justify the killing of five innocent civilians. Authorities and police by creating confusion regarding the incident are trying to divert the attention from over the civilian killings,” he said.
Hurriyat (G) chairman said whatever be the actual reason behind the episode, the public protests are a routine in Kashmir and “to fire upon the peaceful protestors is nothing but state-terrorism”.
Geelani also slammed Indian media for its “anti-Kashmir propaganda” saying, “This cannot but be termed as mediagiri.”
