SRINAGAR: Awami Itihad Party (AIP) president and MLA Langate, Er Rashid on Saturday said Kashmir issue “is the mother of all disputes and there is no option but to resolve it”. He also asked the chief minister Mehbooba Mufti to “either ensure some safety to Kashmiris or resign without wasting time”.
A statement of AIP said that Rashid was detained by police while he was on way to Awoora, Kupwara to express condolence to the family of Muhammad Arif who was killed in Natnoosa by Army.
“After heated exchange of words with forces, Er Rashid was forced to move back to Handwara. However, on the way back, he addressed protesters at Drugmulla amid anti-India and anti-army slogans,” the statement said.
MLA Langate, in his address said, “Kashmir issue is the mother of all disputes and there is no option but to resolve it.”
He said all evidences point that company commander of 47 RR at Nutnoosa had been provoking inhabitants since NIT issue and had raised a tri-colour outside the camp. “He had dared the villagers to wave a Pakistani flag there and started using high power loudspeakers to raise Bhajans and prayers only at the time when local mosques would start Azaan. Yesterday when people were protesting after Friday prayers over Handwara killings, army opened unprovoked fire and killed Arif and injured many,” the statement said.
Rashid rejected the army’s version that protesters were attacking the bunker with stones saying, “How can we believe that Arif was killed at a distance of 300 meters from the camp site. We demand immediate removal of the army camp at Nutnoosa else we will protest.”
