Srinagar: Terming Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) as the biggest problem in J&K, Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) president and MLA Khansahib Hakim Mohammad Yasin has said that successive governments in J&K have been claiming that it will be revoked, but till date nothing has been done.
“If a stone is hurled on Army, they fire on people and kill them. Unless AFSPA isn’t revoked such incidents will happen,” Hakim said in a statement.
Appealing all the mainstream and separatists parties to unite under one banner to save Kashmiris from further damage, issuing statements on every killing has become a fashion in Kashmir.
“Killings and other related issues have been going on since 1947 and especially from the last 26 years in Kashmir. Every time when someone is killed, political parties start condemning such incidents and expressing solidarity with the victims. However, everybody does this individually,” Hakim Yasin said in a press statement.
“Instead of condemning and condoling such killings individually, all the mainstream and separatists should come under one banner and urge India and Pakistan to solve the Kashmir dispute peacefully. The need of the hour is to get united and there is no doubt that it will force the both countries to solve the vexed issue. Otherwise issuing statements on every killing has become a fashion,” he added.
Hakim said calling probes after every such killing has become a formality now. “Instead of calling probes and forming enquiry commissions, it is the right time that government should hold the guilty responsible and punish them according to law,” he demanded.
