SRINAGAR: Chairman Hurriyat Conference (M), Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, on Friday said the government has adopted “dictatorial tactics” and is exhibiting an “extremist mindset”.
Mirwaiz, who continues to be under house arrest, condemned the administration’s actions and policies. He accused the government of using “excessive force to suppress the people’s sentiment” in Kashmir.
“Despite using force, the rulers have in the last three decades failed to suppress the aspirations of Kashmiri people and the resolve of the resistance leadership. They would fail in future as well,” he said in a statement issued here.
Mirwaiz appealed the international community to take note of the recent civilian killings at Handwara and Kupwara.
“They need to come forward to play a role in helping resolve the Kashmir issue as per the wishes and aspirations of Kashmiris,” he said.
Hurriyat (M) chairman also condemned the “use of force and violence” on the conglomerate’s peaceful protest march at Dargah Hazratbal wherein, as per the statement, many of its leaders and activists were detained.
