SRINAGAR: Following the Friday prayers, hundreds of youth raised pro-freedom and anti-India slogans in Hyderpora area of district Sringar, demanding justice for Handwara killings.
A complete shutdown is being observed in the valley against the killings of three innocent youths and an elderly woman in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
The youth had assembled at Hyderpora’s Jamia Masjid for Friday congregation prayers and later raised anti-India, anti-army and pro-Azadi slogans.
The Mirwaiz-led Hurriyat had, on Wednesday, announced a protest march against the Handwara killings on Friday. According to the party spokesman, “Mirwaiz Umar farooq would be leading the march from the Jamia Masjid in Nowhatta.”
“To defy the pro-freedom camp’s march, the state administration barred the entry and assembly in the mosque premise. As a result no Friday prayers were held,” a local resident said.
