Civil society demands ‘met’

SRINAGAR: The Kupwara Magistrate on Wednesday agreed in writing to five demands of civil society after four civilians were killed during protest demonstrations. The Magistrate has agreed to write to army authorities for removal of the army bunker situated at main chowk Handwara.
A lenient view will be taken in general FIRs, and other measures were suspension of an officer ASI Mohammad Rafiq for his alleged negligence of duty, magisterial enquiry to be completed within stipulated time, the matter of ex-gratia relief for the next of kin will also be taken up in a stipulated time.
Independent legislator Abdul Rasheed, who was also in the meeting, told Kashmir Reader that the officials have informally agreed to name the Chowk ‘Shaheed Nayeem chowk’ as well as utilize Rs 15 lakh for the beautification of the area where from the bunker will be removed.
