Srinagar: People have placed bodies of the slain youth at main chowk Handwara and are shouting anti-India slogans to protest against their killing.
The youth were killed by government forces after they were protesting against the army’s bid of molesting a girl in the town.
The slain youth were identified as Mohammad Iqbal and Nayeem Qadir of Handwara. Health department’s Block Medical Officer Dr Rouf told Kashmir Reader that two youth with firearm injury were brought to the hospital around 3:30pm on Tuesday afternoon. He said one among the youth was brought dead while the other succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. “Iqbal had a bullet injury in his head while Nayeem had received bullet in his abdomen,” he said, adding “the third youth has minor injuries and is stable”.
Both the bodies, he said, were handed over to locals.
An army spokesman said it regrets the “unfortunate loss of life”. “Matter will be investigated and anybody found guilty will be dealt as per the law,” the official said.
