SRINAGAR: Divisional commissioner Kashmir Asgar Hassan Samoon Monday asked Hajj officials to frame standard operating procedures (SoPs) to regulate the activities of private Hajj and Umrah tour operators.
He said this during a meeting of officers and a delegation of representatives of private Hajj and Umrah companies who apprised Samoon about problems they confront in the absence of any government regulation for conducting Umrah.
Samoon was informed that proper guidelines are in place for Hajj pilgrimage under private quota, but no such guideline regulates Umrah organized by private tour operators.
On the occasion, Samoon asked the executive officer, J&K Hajj Committee, Srinagar, to formulate the SoPs in collaboration with various stake holders including the authorised tour operators for the benefit of people and tour operators alike.
He said that the SoPs should be uploaded on the J&K Hajj Committee website. Officers concerned were also directed to publicise the names of the authorized tour operators so that people can make an informed decision while planning their pilgrimage.
