Naik’s death: Protest erupt in Verinag

ANANTNAG: People of Kapran Verinag took to streets to protests over the death of a 55-year-old man after the army raided his house last night.

Abdul Gani Naik suffer heart attack after the army men carried out raid on his house during the night hours. He was taken to nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.

As the news about his death spread in the area this morning villagers took to roads and are holding anti-army protests. Witnesses said that though the police after full filling the legal and medical formalities of the deceased had handed over the body to the family but they refused to take possession of the body. Hundreds of people, witnesses said, carrying the body of the deceased are marching towards police station Dooru to handover the body to police.

The protesters are demanding arrest of the army men who carried out the night raid on the house of the deceased. Authorities, witnesses said have deployed huge contingents of forces in the area to keep the situation under control.
