DFP protests Shah’s detention

SRINAGAR: Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) activists from Kupwara district held a protest on Friday against the continuous detention of the party’s chairman, Shabir Ahmad Shah.
Shah continues to be lodged in police station Rajbagh since February 24, when he was arrested by police during a night raid.
As per a statement, DFP representative for Kupwara, Peer Inayatullah addressed the people at local Jamia Masjid and later led protests against Shah’s continued detention. He termed Shah’s detention “based on political vengeance”. “Due to continuous illegal detention, Shah sahib’s health has deteriorated,” he said.
“Government has no justification to keep him (Shah) under detention. By banning the political activities of pro-freedom leaders, administration only complicates the already-tense situation in the Valley,” he said.
