Srinagar: A group of Kashmiri students, studying at two different engineering colleges in Jammu, on Thursday were allegedly thrashed by fellow students after they refused to chant slogans ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Bharat Mein Rahna Hai, Vande Mataram Kehna Hai.’
Kashmiri students said the assailants barged into hostels at both the colleges— Government Engineering and Technology College and Yogananda College of Engineering & Technology—and asked them to chant ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’
“They threw our valuables and books from our rooms. Many Kashmiri students were injured,” said a student.
Kashmiri students at the Yogananda College of Engineering and Technology Jammu also alleged that they were harassed by non-Kashmiri students, which prompted authorities to cancel examination for the day.
“We were about to appear in the exam at 10 am when hundreds of students started harassing us. They told us to shout Bharat Mata Ki Jai. The authorities cancelled the paper and we moved to our hostels,” a student told Kashmir Reader over phone.
