NIT Row: Protests held in Jammu

Jammu: Protests were held in Jammu on Wednesday to support the outstation students of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar.
The students of Jammu University and various colleges here organised a joint rally in protest.
Carrying tricolor, the protesting students blocked the Jammu-Pathankot highway near Bikram Chowk for more than an hour, demanding full protection to non-Kashmiri students.
The parents of the outstation students also staged a protest against the police action at the campus. Supported by Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (NPP), parents of non-Kashmiri students protested against the state government.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association (HCBA), Jammu, has decided to suspend work in all courts on Thursday to protest the “use of force on outstation students”.
Scores of the activists of Pradesh Youth Congress (PYC) marched towards the official residence of deputy chief minister, Nirmal Singh.
The activists were arrested by the police before they reached his residence. The protesters subsequently blocked traffic on Talab Tillo road.
Police arrested about two dozen activists.
