British woman’s murder: Court directs psychiatric check up of accused Dutchman

SRINAGAR: A trial court here Wednesday directed authorities to take a Dutchman who is accused of murdering a young British woman here in 2013 to a psychiatric hospital for a check up.
The Dutchman, Richard de Wit, was arrested soon after he allegedly murdered the 24-year-old British tourist, Sara Elizabeth Grooves inside a houseboat at Dalgate here on April 6, 2013.
At today’s hearing, at least five officials of Netherlands embassy were present in the court of principal district and sessions judge Srinagar, Rashid Ali Dar. There is presently no lawyer representing the accused.  The court posted the case on April 16.
Richard was arrested from the main town Qazigund when he was allegedly trying to escape. After filing a case (FIR No. 40/2013) at police station Ram Munshi Bagh, the police found him guilty of the crime and accordingly filed the charge sheet.
