SRINAGAR: Police cordoned off Hyderpora residence of Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani on Tuesday evening. He is scheduled to return from New Delhi on Wednesday.
Hurriyat (G) spokesman Ayaz Akbar told Kashmir Reader over phone that a large contingent of police was deployed outside the residence which doubles as the headquarters of the resistance conglomerate.
“Geelani Sahib is yet to return and has and the so-called government has returned to its tactics,” Akbar said.
After staying at New Delhi for medical treatment for about two months, Geelani is scheduled to arrive in the Valley at 1pm.
“Doctors have advised Geelani Sahib to take a complete rest. He is recovering gradually but still feeling weakness,” he said.
Meanwhile, as per conglomerate’s statement, Geelani has been invited by OIC Secretary General to its 13th Summit scheduled to be held at Istanbul, Turkey.
However, due to non-availability of travel documents, he said, the veteran pro-freedom leader would not be able to participate in the event.
“The passport issued to Geelani Sahib by administration last year has expired as that was valid only for nine months,” the spokesman said.
