SRINAGAR: An avalanche warning was issued on Monday for the higher areas of Jammu and Kashmir, advising people not to venture in these areas over the next 24 hours.
‘Medium danger’ avalanche warning exists for avalanche prone areas above 3,500 metres altitude of Ganderbal and Kargil districts of Jammu and Kashmir, the advisory said.
The advisory was issued by the Chandigarh-based Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE). It will remain effective for 24 hours beginning Monday 5 PM.
The SASE release said Drass received 5 cm fresh snowfall while Banihal Top received 16 mm, Gulmarg 28 mm, and Pharkian 34 mm had received rainfall in the last 24 hours.
