SRINAGAR: Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has been formally invited by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) secretary general Iyad bin Amin Madani for the organisation’s 13th Summit to be held in Istanbul, Turkey from April 10 to 15.
However, the conglomerate’s spokesman in a statement issued here said Mirwaiz doesn’t have travel documents. He has asked the government of India to provide the same.
“Refusal of the issuance of passport to Mirwaiz is not only unfortunate but also against the basic accepted human right of ‘Right to Travel’,” the spokesman said, adding, the Hurriyat (M) chairman wasn’t able to represent the conglomerate in the last summit held in Cairo, Egypt due to unavailability of his travel documents.
Meanwhile, as per statement, Mirwaiz while thanking the OIC and its secretary general, Iyad bin Amin Madani for invitation said being an important forum of the Islamic countries; OIC has the responsibility to play a role in helping the Islamic world get rid of the problems confronting it.
He also thanked OIC for its political and diplomatic support to Kashmiris’ right to self-determination saying, “The peace and stability of entire South Asia is connected to the resolution of Kashmir issue and the efforts of OIC and other international organizations could play a positive role in this regard.”
“We hope that during the 13th OIC Summit, the representatives of its member countries would stress upon the leadership of India and Pakistan to resolve Kashmir issue as per the wishes and aspirations of the people of Jammu Kashmir,” he said.
Mirwaiz said Islamic world is facing serious problems and the menace of terrorism is connected to Islam with a “nefarious design”. “The OIC member countries need to devise policies with vision and foresightedness to deal with these issues and must put efforts to bring Muslim countries closer,” he said.
