Kashmiri students seek security in Bhopal after threats, extortion

Bhopal: Kashmiri students pursuing degrees in physical education department of Barkatullah University (BU) sought security on Friday after some unidentified students scuffled with them. They have also written a letter to the director, physical education department, Times of India reported.
TOI possesses a copy of the letter written by students wherein they have demanded security. Pleading anonymity, a Kashmiri student said they had been even extorted by unknown people, the report said.
Around 100 students from Jammu and Kashmir are pursuing different courses in BU. “For the last couple of days, several people from outside have been coming to the university campus. Whenever we are on the ground for practical studies they too reach there and even ask for money,” he said.
Kashmiri students alleged that the guards posted on the university campus were informed several times, but they did nothing. “These guards are of no use. Whenever we sought their help they never responded,” said a Kashmiri student.
When contacted, director sports, Barkatullah University, Akhilesh Sharma, told the TOI, “I have received their complaint. It is a serious matter and we are committed to provide security to Kashmiri students. I will forward their letter to higher authorities for further action.”
