SRINAGAR: Awami Itihad Party (AIP) president and MLA Langate, Abdul Rashid, on Friday said Kashmiri people’s reaction over West Indies’ victory against India in World T20 semi-final reestablishes that Kashmir “is a deep-rooted problem, not just an issue of governance”.
Inaugurating a medical dispensary at Walrama, Qaziabad, Rashid, as per a statement issued here, said the celebrations proved that Kashmir needs a “genuine political solution”.
“New Delhi must introspect and find answers to why Kashmiris were celebrating India’s defeat when entire India was mourning the loss,” he said in his address on the occasion.
“It is now proven beyond doubt that killing militants, slapping PSAs on youth, calling AFSPA a holy book, disgracing Kashmiri leadership, relocating few army camps, providing financial packages, and detaining and harassing hundreds of Kashmiris in jails within and outside J&K has not helped in resolving the dispute, but has complicated the problem further.”
Celebrations over India’s defeat, he said, should be an eye-opener for every “good Indian”.
“They must read the writing on the wall—that with every day, the distance between New Delhi and Srinagar only deepens.”
Till New Delhi changes its attitude of “ruling Kashmir at the barrel of gun” and resolve the political dispute on the basis of mutual respect and in light of historic perspective, only police, army, bureaucracy, and “few politicians” will be seen as symbols of India’s presence in J&K, he said.
