SRINAGAR: Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) activists from Pulwama district held a protest here on Friday against the continuous detention of the party’s chairman, Shabir Ahmad Shah.
As per a statement issued here, DFP district president Pulwama, Muhammad Amin, addressed the people at Jamia Masjid there and later on led protests.
Amin also addressed the protesters and termed Shah’s detention as “based on political vengeance”. “Government has no justification to keep Shah under detention. By banning the political activities of pro-freedom leaders, the administration only complicates the already-tense situation in the Valley,” he said.
He said Shah has been under continuous police detention for the more than a month. ““There is lawlessness prevailing in the state with military and police ruling the roost. Shah Sahib’s detention is unlawful and the justice-loving people of the world must take notice of how human rights are violated in this state,” he said.
Amin also condemned the arrest of a youth, Kifyat Ahmad of Bijbehara, terming it “unjustified”. ”The state has become nothing less than a jail for youths who feel suffocated,” he said.
