‘Chidambaram’s statement proved Afzal was innocent’

SRINAGAR: Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) president and MLA Khansahib, Hakim Mohammad Yasin on Sunday said Indian former home minister, P Chidambaram’s statement on Afzal Guru “proved Kashmiris right that he (Afzal) was innocent”.
In a statement issued here, Yasin questioned Chidambaram’s silence when Afzal Guru was hanged. “What stopped him (Chidambaram) from making such remarks when he was home minister and when Guru’s mercy plea was sent to him? Congress leader should not play politics over the issue,” he said and demanded a judicial probe into Guru’s hanging.
He also criticised New Delhi for “implicating” and arresting SAR Geelani. “Why is SAR Geelani arrested when he hasn’t done anything unlawful? It seems he is being made another Afzal Guru.”
Meanwhile, the PDF chief asked government to immediately redress the people’s problems “who are facing crisis due to the implementation of National Food Security Act (NFSA)”.
“Either government should revoke this Act or amend it so that the genuine concerns of people are taken care off. The implementation of the NFSA has created food crisis in Kashmir and people are on roads protesting against it,” he said.
