Officials yet to visit fire-devastated Uri market, victims aghast

Uuri: Four days after a major fire damaged about 50 commercial structures at main market Uri, Baramulla, the officials of the state administration are yet to visit the site for assessing the losses.Chodrey Mushtaq Ahmad, who lost more than 30 shops in the incident, said apart from the sub-district magistrate and the police officers, no one from the administration visited the area.
Dr Sajad Ahmad also lost his clinic in the incident. He said:  “It was a massive fire in which about 100 structures, including 50 shops, were completely gutted; people lost their worth crores of rupees. But it is a shame that after many requests, the district administration officials including revenue officials did not even visit us.”
“The affected people here are waiting for some relief from the government.”
Meanwhile, a group of Baramulla Working Journalists Association (BWJA) visited the area and expressed sympathy with the fire victims.A team of Traders Federation Baramulla also visited them.
