Jammu-based activist moves NHRC for enquiry into Haryana mass rape

SRINAGAR: A Jammu-based activist has filed a petition with National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) seeking enquiry into the alleged killing and gang rape of women during the recent Jat reservation agitation in Haryana.
Deepak Sharma, in his complaint to secretary general, NHRC, urged him to “bring out the truth and to provide justice to the victims” of the agitation.
“You are requested to kindly hold a time-bound enquiry into the alleged incident/matter of gang rape of women during Jat reservation agitation in Haryana,” the petition said.
“During the agitation, violence, arson and loot on large-scale took place.  As per media reports, 28 persons have died and more than 200 injured.  The intensity of violence and subsequent fear caused in the minds of general public can be gauged form the fact that, as per media reports, property worth 20,000 crores were destroyed and at least 10 women gang raped in Murthul, Haryana, but the state police department is denying any such incident,” the complaint said.
“You are therefore requested to kindly hold a time-bound enquiry into the alleged incidents to bring out the truth and to provide justice to the victims,” the petition said.
