Responsibility higher in absence of govt: Vohra to officials

Srinagar: Governor N N Vohra on Wednesday said the responsibility of the administration has increased in the absence of an elected government and urged officials to provide “clean and efficient services” to the people.
“You are all senior and experienced functionaries and have increased responsibilities when an elected government is not in place. It is, therefore, your duty to provide clean, efficient and be acceptable to the people,” the Governor said, while chairing a high-level review meeting of officers at the Civil Secretariat here.
Vohra said he met people from various walks of life who complained about the difficulties faced by them.
“It is our duty to plug all the loopholes and resolve all problems on time-bound bases,” he said, adding, “people have high expectations and we should not let them down. We must show better performance on all fronts.
He urged them to ensure punctuality in attendance of all staff and their working in a completely professional manner.
The Governor directed the heads of various departments to work tirelessly for the welfare of the state.
“Services to people are to be improved on a priority basis. I do not need to tell and I do not want to tell you.
What I need is better results on the ground from all of you,” he said.
He said that concrete steps should be taken by the administration regarding the effective redressal of grievances.
The Governor also desired that accountability should be fixed at all levels to ensure that the problems of the people are solved in a time-bound manner.
Vohra asked the officials to ensure timely availability of high quality and high-density fruit plant root-stock in Kashmir too.
He ordered the officials to create awareness among the orchardists about the use of the specialised lab at SKUAST-K (Sher-E-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir).
Vohra also directed high quality fruit plant nurseries to be set up in Kashmir.
The Governor asked the officers to make best use of information technology for extending various services to the people.
