SRINAGAR: Police on Monday foiled a protest march of Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) and detained several of its activists who were protesting the killing of two civilians.
The two civilians were killed in government forces firing in Kakpora area of Pulwama district in south Kashmir on Sunday.
Defying restrictions, the protesters tried to march towards Lal Chowk but were stopped ahead of Regal Chowk where police used force to disperse them and arrested more than a dozen activists and lodged them in Kothi Bagh police station.
The protestors were raising slogans against the unprovoked firing by the government forces which resulted in killing of Shaista Hameed and Danish Mir.
Meanwhile, the AIP president and MLA Langate Er Rasheed was kept under house arrest on Monday to prevent him to visit Pulwama to protest against the killing of two youths.
MLA Langate while speaking to media at his residence rejected any probe and said: “There is no fun in ordering a probe which as usual would yield nothing, as GoI is treating Kashmiris its enemies and has decided a policy matter to cover every atrocity on Kashmiris.”
“All cosmetic measures will yield nothing unless GoI gives-up its arrogance and ensures respect towards human rights,” he added.
