Soldier injured in Kupwara gunfight

Baramulla: A soldier was injured in an encounter between militants and government forces in a Kupwara village on Friday.
DIG North Kashmir Gareeb Das told Kashmir Reader that the soldier sustained minor injuries as soon as the gunfight started between the militants and the soldiers of army’s 41 Rashtriya Rifles battalion and Special Operations Group of police in Marsari village of Chokibal area in the frontier district on Friday afternoon.
“The operation was suspended due to darkness and all exit points for militants have been sealed,” Das added.
The encounter ensued after the army and SOG got information about the presence of two to three militants in the house of one Ghulam Mohammad Wani son of Abli Wani, in the village, it has been learnt.
Army spokesman Lt Col NN Joshi said the operation is under progress.
