SRINAGAR: Prof. Nazeer Ahmad, VC SKUAST-K on Wednesday called upon the extension functionaries of development departments and the KVK scientists of the University to share the primary responsibility of taking the university technological interventions to the farmer’s fields.
He was speaking during Scientific Advisory Committee Meetings of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra meetings of District Budgam and Srinagar held at Shalimar Campus, Srinagar.
He further advised extension people and the Deans of the University to regularly disseminate the technologies developed through print and electronic media and also highlight skill development programs and other opportunities which provide livelihood avenues to unemployed youth.
He further added that KVKs should also target Self Help Groups in their respective districts in imparting required trainings in order to empower them to be self sufficient and also advised for approaching school heads to induce students to take trainings in the agriculture during vacations.
Highlighting the decision of the University Council, Prof. Nazeer also advised for taking intensive efforts for popularization of varieties of rice under System of Rice Intensification technology that should also form part of future Action Plan of the KVKs. Extension functionaries were advised to use this technology at block levels and at least at five locations in each district.
Further informing about holding of Mega Exhibition-cum-Seed Sale, Prof. Nazeer said that KVK should focus on bringing the farmers of the districts where university shall showcase the technologies generated and also put planting material and other university products on exhibition and sale.
