Baramulla: Six veterinary centres in Uri tehsil of this north Kashmir district have just one veterinarian available for the treatment of animals.
A part of Intensive Cattle Development (ICD) project, the centres located at Garkote, Kamalkote, Nowshera, Trikanjan, and NoorKha are being run by stock assistants and attendants. Only the Uri main centre has a doctor available.
Ghulam Mohammad Lone, a resident of Boniyar, Uri, told Kashmir Reader that the villagers have been facing problem due to the unavailability of doctors.
“Our animals are being treated by attendants and assistants. We tried to bring the matter into the notice of legislators and authorities, but they were not of much help,” he said.
The chief animal husbandry officer concerned, Mohammad Shafi Shala, confirmed that five out of six veterinarian positions in the tehsil were lying vacant.
“We are aware of the situation, and we have already taken up the issue with our higher-ups. They have assured us that doctors will be deputed to the tehsil soon,” he said.
