Don’t celebrate ‘Valentine’s Day’, Aasiya appeals youth

SRINAGAR: Chairperson Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM), Syeda Aasiya Andrabi on Monday appealed youths to desist from ‘Valentine Day’ celebrations saying there is a need to put an end to the trend.
“The owners of gift shops, restaurants and those at the helm of different gardens and parks must desist from any kind of Valentine’s Day celebrations on February 14,” Aasiya said in a statement issued here.
“Last year no such celebrations took place. Shopping malls and marts have been asked not to sell any gifts relating to the day. We request our youths not to fall prey to these western trends as such malicious celebrations are being forced upon us to divert us from Islam,” she said.
“Kids should understand that Valentine was an immoral vulgar man who preached the so-called love, which actually was a lust. This has been prohibited in Qur’an and is haraam in Shariah,” Aasiya added.
