Vigilance registers land fraud case against Taj Mohiuddin

SRINAGAR: Senior Congress leader and former Jammu and Kashmir minister Taj Mohiuddin was on Wednesday booked in an alleged land scam case, with the Vigilance Organisation Kashmir (VOK) claiming that revenue records were “tampered with” and “fake records” prepared to benefit him. Some officials of the Revenue Department were also booked along with Mohiuddin, who called the move “witch-hunting” and said he would fight it out in the court.
“An FIR under section 5(1) (d) r/w 5(2) J&K P.C. Act sections 468, 471 and 120-B RPC in police station Vigilance Organisation Kashmir has been registered against Atiqullah Shah son of Sonuallah Shah resident of Chimar Noorabad Kulgam and other officers/officials of Revenue Department and the beneficiary Taj Mohi-ud-Din son of Khuda Baksh resident of Batamaloo Srinagar,” the organisation said in a statement issued here.
The VOK said its investigations have revealed that Taj acquired about 18 Kanals of forest land in south Kashmir’s Shopian district by making the officers concerned tamper with the revenue records.
“The mutation (no. 551 dated 29/12/1992 under survey no. 3) for 18 Kanals and 2 Marlas of land was shown recorded under sections 4 and 21 of Agrarian Reforms Act, 1976, under fictitious and fraudulent signatures of then-Tehsildar by then-clerk Tehsil Office, Shopian, Atiqulla Shah. He had done it in connivance with other officers/officials of the Revenue department and beneficiary Taj Mohiuddin,” it said.
Reacting to the development, Mohiuddin said, “Let them investigate. By registration of an FIR, it does not prove I have committed the offence…I am in possession of this land since 1971. There was a complaint about forest land, but it proved to be wrong. It is revenue land. I have purchased it from a person, who has now died. There is no complaint.”
The investigations revealed that mutation (no. 614/1 dated 26/06/1991 entry under section 8 Agrarian Reforms Act has been shown made, while as entry under section 4 has been shown made on December 29, 1992, it said.
The verification has established that the accused officers/officials of Revenue Department in order to confer undue benefit upon the beneficiary Taj Mohiuddin, have illegally made insertions, corrections tempering in revenue records, thus prepared fake fictitious record and paved the way for the beneficiary to encroach on forest land illegally.
