Timeline: Gunfight in Kashmir’s Hajin

1 The government forces received a tip off about the presence of three militants in
Kashmir’s Hajin area in Bandipora district on Thursday morning.

2 The army, SOG and Police instantly swooped into action and launched a cordon and search operation in the area.

3 At 10am government forces established contact with militants, who were hiding in a residential house of Sanaullah Bhat of Khos Mohalla in Hajin.

4 As soon as the news of encounter spread, the locals assembled in the market and tried to march towards the encounter site. However, police and paramilitary forces foiled the protest.

5 Around 4pm, a militant was killed after the forces blasted house where the militants were holed-up since morning. Two more militants were killed later.

6 DIG North Kashmir Garib Das said the slain trio hail from Pakistan and were affiliated with Lashker-Toiba

7 Soon after the encounter ended, protests erupted as the people were demanding bodies of the slain militants.

8 The government forces lobbed teargas canisters to disperse protestors demanding the bodies. Huge contingent of police and paramilitary forces were deployed in the town to disperse the protestors.
