Baramulla: The residents of Watergam area of Rafiabad in Baramulla district of north Kashmir, on Friday, took to streets to protest against the power development department’s unscheduled and frequent power cuts.
The residents also blocked the Handwara-Baramulla road for nearly two hours, affecting the vehicular movement.
“We have several times complained to the authorities about the frequent and unscheduled power cuts but no one is paying any attention,” a local resident Sheikh Dawood Ahmad said.
According to the eye-witnesses, the protestors locked the grid station and also manhandled the PDD employees.
It was only after the assurance from the PDD senior officials and police intervention the traffic movement was restored.
“The power development officials gave us assurance that our problems will be addressed at priority,” Ahmad said.
Meanwhile, the residents of adjoining village, Chandosa, have also complained that they are reeling under darkness for past several weeks as their grid station too is out of service.
