SRINAGAR: Senior Hurriyat Conference (G) leader and chairman National Front, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, on Monday said India is “shamelessly” celebrating its Republic Day in Kashmir as “Kashmiris have never taken any interest in such events”.
“Through such childish acts, New Delhi is trying to hide the fact that Kashmiri people have never taken any interest in the national festivals of India but want an immediate end to occupation,” Khan said in a statement issued here.
He said India’s celebrating of its Republic Day in a disputed region was a “crude joke”, even as he appealed people to follow the programme given by Hurriyat Conference (G).
“World community should know that Kashmiri people stand aloof of the Indian Republic Day celebrations. India has massacred one lakh Kashmiris since the last two-and-a-half decades and disappeared more than eight thousand people after taking them into custody,” Khan said.
He said if New Delhi wanted to play any role in the global issues and enjoy a permanent UNSC membership, it must resolve the Kashmir dispute.
