Lailat-ul-Qadr

Lailat-ul-Qadr, night of power is a gift to the best Ummah of all times.  It is believed that the pious companions of the most revered Prophet (SAW) once asked the revered messenger (SAW) the previous Ummah had long lives and , therefore, more time to pray while as Muslims are not that privileged.  The night of power was gifted to the Ummah soon after.

The most revered Prophet (SAW) received the first revelation on this night. This blessed night is better than one thousand months (Al Quran).  Some scholars say that this night is the crowning glory of the holy month of Ramadan.  The importance of this night can be gauged from the fact that the Quran devotes a fell SuraQadr to it.

Hazrat Aisha (RA) stated that Rasool Allah (SAW) said, “Look for Lailat-Ul-Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadhan” (Bukhari). Many people stay awake on the odd night of the last ten days of the holy month. But, by and large are under a mistaken notion that the blessed night necessarily falls on the 27th Ramadan. No one night has been fixed so that the yearning to find it may increase and people may spend more nights in worshipping Allah. From this aspect, the importance of `I`tikaf (seclusion) during the last ten days of Ramadhan is clear.

Hazrat Aisha (RA)  stated that as much Rasool Allah  (SAW) tried (Ibadat) in the last Ashra (ten days) of Ramadhan, did not try in any of the Ashra.” (Muslim)

The mother of the believers, Hazrat Aisha (RA) further stated that I asked Rasool Allah (SAW), “If I find LailatulQadar then what should I do? He(peace be upon him) said, recite this Dua.”ALLAH HUMMA INNAKA A’FUVUN TOHIB BUL AFVA FA’AFU ANNI” (Tirmidhi)

“O Allah! You are the Forgiver and You like forgiving so forgive me”

Abu Huraira (RA) narrated that the Messenger said: “Whoever stands (in prayer) in LailatulQadr while nourishing his faith with self-evaluation, expecting reward from Allah, will have all of his previous sins forgiven.” (Bukhari and Muslim).

Ulema have given the signs of Lailatul-Qadr

1. The sun rises early in the morning without rays.

2. Rain may fall either during the night or during the day of that night.

3. During night the sky will be lightly foggy.

4. The sky will be slightly lighted without reflections and without rays.

According to a hadith, Jebriel (AS) shakes hands with all the persons that stay awake on this blessed night.  And when he shakes hands, the person experiences a wave of shiver and he feels like crying. The person who experiences this has definitely found the blessed night.
